Staff and Training
‘Companions’ staff team are selected for their ability to be good listeners and competent in skills to assist the young people to overcome their problems associated with the misuse of substances, personal experiences, past, present and future fears and worries.

The staff we have recruited are from multi-disciplinary backgrounds including Education (QTS) Social Care (NVQ3)(NVQ4), A1 NVQ Assessors and Substance misuse. New staff who do not hold NVQ 3 in working with children and Young People are placed on the next available course.

Additional to the staff on the rota:
counsellor,
music tutor,
aromatherapist,
qualified teacher

External therapists: Traditional Chinese Acupuncture.

Our staff team is dynamic, enthusiastic, imaginative and patient.

Staff Induction
All newly appointed staff will need to complete an intensive induction program and satisfy the homes manager they are ready to be included on the working rota. During this time the staff member will ‘shadow’ an experienced member of staff.
Dependent upon experience newly appointed staff will work with a mentor for the first few months following induction.

Additionally all staff will complete refresher training on Companions policies and procedures and changes in relevant legislation.

All staff members will either be NVQ3 Qualified or in training.
All staff members will either hold basic counselling skills or will be working towards.

All staff receive regular Supervision and hold Individual Employee Development Plans.
At all times there will be one member of staff to one young person however 2:1 could be facilitated should this be necessary.
