Aims and Objectives
‘Companions’ believe that young people who are experiencing disruption in their day to day lives as a result of substance misuse have to cope with the trials and tribulations of their young life from a different perspective. We aim to support these young people by providing them with choices and opportunities to develop their social skills and confidence.

One of our functions is to encourage the young people to develop an understanding of societal norms and forms of behaviour that are socially acceptable and conversely the consequences of non-conformity. We believe those social routines then remain relatively constant throughout adult life.

Our service is carefully designed so it is conducive to promoting self-motivation and in affecting positive change. ‘Companions’ aim to address the needs of young people in a sensitive, structured and consistent way. We will work with individuals on a one to one basis and also within a group setting, encouraging growth, responsibility and conformity in addition to empowering them to achieve a healthy lifestyle, staying safe whilst enjoying life.

We believe that the young people have the right to be actively involved with the running of the house through regular house meetings, an easy to follow compaints system and a naned 'Action worker'. Therefore allowing the young people to have their views and opinions acknowledged and acted upon. We believe this promotes a sense of belonging and builds confidence and self-worth.

Young people residing at ‘Companions’ will be provided with a safe, confidential, non-judgmental anti-discriminatory environment in which they will be able to express their feelings and emotions, concerns and fears.

‘Companions’ recognise that all young people can change and develop when given the right kind of support.

Measuring Success
Success is not measured by the number of young people who pass through the doors of Hunters Moon or by a quick turnover or by the Company making lots of money.

Success is:
• a good & positive relationship between young people and staff,
• Young people sustaining drive to achieve their full potential and ambition.
• Provision of a happy, homely, safe, warm welcoming environment
• A happy transition into adulthood and society

‘Companions’ does not boast it can change all young people, some are not quite ready to make changes, however during the time at ‘Companions’ they will achieve and take away with them happy memories and the knowledge that people do care for them.

Best Practice
‘Companions’ strive to meet & exceed the Legislative and Statutory requirements of the regulatory bodies.
companions operate regular Quality Assurance checks and is inspected by Ofsted.
During an unannounced Ofsted inspection in November 07 'Companions' was awarded 'OVERALL OUTSTANDING JUDGEMENT'.

Letter from ex-resident
"I think companions is a huge sucess because the staff are carm and relaxed which helped me to be calm. The staff helped me to gain more confidence when going out into public places, and also helped me to find another way of controling my self harming. They gave me a lot of good memories that i shall keep forever.
Even though now i am not living with companions i still phone them and they will still give me support over the phone or even just to have a chat. To me it was the best home i have ever had and still is.
All the staff are lovely, kind and patient there is always someone there 24:7 if you were to ever need them. When i unfortunatly left companions out of it i gained a level 1 equine certificate, confidence and motivation and i will always be so greatful for all the help they gave to me."
